The West Partnership

Child Friendly Complaints Training Materials

These materials have been created by a group representing the eight local authorities in the West Partnership. They set the context and give an overview of Children’s Rights in Scotland and the seven Child Friendly Complaints Principles from the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO). It’s important to note that these are designed to supplement local guidance and processes.

The materials are relevant to anyone who may be involved in Child-Friendly Complaints in a local authority.

Below you will find:

  • A set of short presentations
    • Each has a voiceover and script in the notes under each slide.

    • Part two looks at Children’s Rights in Scotland.
    • Parts 3-9 focus on the seven SPSO Child-Friendly Complaints Principles.
  • The text for a leaflet written for children and young people. This explains what Child Friendly Complaints are. It can be downloaded and adapted for use in your organisation.

The presentations can be used individually or as a set to give a complete overview of Children’s Rights and the SPSO Child-Friendly Complaints Principles.
