Assessment & Moderation

The purpose of assessment is to gather evidence on what learners know, understand and are able to do. It is important learners are assessed using a range of methods, and all assessments should be planned alongside the planning of learning and teaching. This allows teachers to gain an accurate picture of learners’ strengths, as well as areas for development.

In the recent Assessment in the BGE update (2020/21), Education Scotland says:

“Assessment is integral to the planning of learning and teaching. A variety of assessment approaches can be used to allow children and young people to demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills, attributes and capabilities in different contexts across the curriculum.”
